Colegio El Buen Pastor, Murcia, Spain
Our school was founded in 1946 in Murcia. The building is located in an emblematic district, which currently includes a large part of the immigrant population of our city, giving it a multicultural character that enriches our teaching. In our school there are 750 students aged 14-16 and 60 teachers. Currently we are a bilingual school in Murcia. Regarding CLIL methodology our school is involved in the Bilingual Program of the Region of Murcia. Visits to museums and expositions are proposed throughout the year in order to integrate cultural knowledge and daily life in our English lessons. We also carry out subjects like Physical Education and Arts through English, so now we call it “Art and Crafts”, it is developed even in non-bilingual levels.
As for new technologies, both through previous European Comenius Projects and in a new subject imposed because of the new educational law (LOMCE), it is countless the amount of time that we spend using the new technologies during our lessons such as, whiteboards, computers, tools working online, skype, making videos and so on. It has become an essential tool for our classes. We strongly use e-twinning as a cooperative platform to disseminate our projects and as a tool of e-learning. Our teachers are dynamic and involved either educational quality or personal growth of our students. Some of them have also participated in Erasmus KA1 to improve their English skills and help our school to continue with our bilingual project with our Regional Education Institution. Due to the participation in this European project they have awarded themselves the importance to show how relevant it is to share the European identity they have lived during their experiences with their students.
We are sure that this project will contribute lots to their self-discovery and self-confidence. Being closer to the European identity and others European schools it’s easier to learn the know how and best practices sharing experiences and knowledge. Our English teachers run an English Theatre workshop. Moreover, we are Cambridge Examiner Centre and we encourage our students to take them because of the value that this language has got by itself. Our teachers are dynamic and involved either educational quality or personal growth of our students. This project helps our students not only to improve their communication skills in a foreign language, although it will also serve to help them to develop a European identity through their cultures.
